Finally…
Our team will be setting off later today to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and we’ll spend the rest of the day travelling to the village, Gia Bac, which is our residence and work area for the next 2 weeks.
For most of us, this will be our first time getting engaged in overseas community service and, needless to say, YEP. It is with both anticipation and a slight fear of the unknown that hangs around us, but we can safely say that our exuding positivity is stronger than ever and there are certainly more hopes than fears for the impending trip.
Just yesterday, we’d a final meeting that only affirmed the team’s unparalleled optimism as each working group shared with everyone about the detailed plans of several of our major activities over the course of the trip. To ensure preparedness, our team leader also went through the emergency plan of actions and she could not have stressed more about our priority being safety. Nearing the end of the meeting, our Vietnamese team member tried to teach the team basic Vietnamese and even a Vietnamese song! Note the word: tried; the general consensus was that Vietnamese is indeed a difficult language to learn, thus, we will definitely need some recap session perhaps on the bus to Gia Bac!
As a team, we have also come up with 3 goals that we hope to achieve together as a team:
- To bond together as a team
- To see a unique team forming by the end of the trip
- To be more open-minded as individuals, and to learn more from the community
Lastly, we’ve officially closed our Adopt-A-Tree initiative and we thank everyone who has very generously donated to our cause. The final tally is over 100 adopters! Now all that’s left to do is to plant the trees, and we really can’t wait to get our hands dirty.
Stay tuned for our update after we return from our trip on 21st December!
